Snowflakes  1                                                12-2024

I saw a picture of a wooden snowflake and thought it would be a nice project for the Christmas holidays. I'll be using pocket hole screws and glue to fasten everything together so this should be an easy project to make.

Working With Wood

I'm using 1" X 6" common pine that I'll rip to size. The final dimension of the snowflake will be 24" X 24" which should look nice when finished. And I'll be making four of these.

Here I'm ripping my boards down to 1 1/2" wide.

Next I cut all my pieces to length, which consisted of four different lengths.

There are two different sizes here, the longer ones are on the left.

I set my miter saw to 30 degrees and cut off one end.

Here are all my pieces that have 30 degree miters on them.

Now it's time to put one hole in each piece for pocket hole screws.

I used some glue on each piece before I screwed them in place.

Here you can see how these go together. The piece in the middle (without holes) is the main board that the other four will fasten to. I found the center of this longer piece (pencil lines) and lined up the miters to this mark.

Here is what it looks like so far.
