This is how I plan to take apart the
cage. I made six of these couplers that will enable me to join two
pieces of tubing together and still have it as strong or stronger than
the tube. These are made out of the same material as the cage is (4130
Chromemoly) and with the use of a clevis pin, I'm able to pull a pin and
        separate the two pieces.

In this shot your looking at the ends
that will get inserted into the tube and then gets welded on. The area
of contact inside the tube is 1/2" and then the shoulder of the
coupler buts up against the end of the tube. The clevis pin diameter is
3/8" and is made out of 316 stainless.

Here you can see how the assembly will
go together. Now these are just some scrap pieces of tubing to show how
the coupler will work. Notice the hole in the clevis pin. To keep the
clevis pin from falling out, I'm using a 1/8" roll pin that will go
through the coupler and pin to keep it in place.

This is what it will look like once
the coupler is in place. The length of the coupler is 1.100" which
is also how much the tube will have to be shortened to maintain the same
length once it's installed. I rounded the end of the clevis pin so that
it would match the coupler once it was in.
